Class Description:
In AP Chemistry, we use Onenote for most of our notes and lessons. Our OneNote is organized with Units across the tabs at the top and then lesson dates with brief topic descriptions along the right side tabs within a unit. You can expect to take notes and solve problems in a designated chemistry notebook. Additionally, you should keep a separate laboratory notebook.
Units of Study:
My AP Chemistry class consists of 13 units of study.
Trimester 1: Unit 1: Chemical Foundations, Unit 2: Reactions, Unit 3: Atoms and Periodic Table, Unit 4; Bonding, Unit 5: Gases
Trimester 2: Unit 6: Solids, Solutions and Intermolecular Forces, Unit 7: Kinetics, Unit 8 Thermodynamics, Unit 9: Equilibrium Part 1
Trimester 3: Unit 10: Equilibrium Part 2, Unit 11: Electrochemistry, Unit 12: AP Review, Unit 13: Final Project and Nuclear Chemistry
Assessments:
Formative Assessments: Formative assessments will happen regularly to gauge student mastery towards preparing them for their summative and final exam. These will typically be in the form of large mastery checks, and lab reports.
Summative Assessments: Each unit will culminate with a summative assessment with a total of 13 for the year. Additionally, large projects will be in this category.
Final Exams: Students will also take Final Exam three times a year at the end of each trimester.
AP Chemistry Exam: This takes place at the beginning of May. Please see the following website for more detail related to the AP Exam:
